Article: Group says most states have poor school nutrition policies

The group evaluated school policies regarding foods and beverages sold in campus vending machines, school stores and school fundraisers. The evaluation excluded school meal programs.

Two statements here. For one, why are they including school fundraisers? Student organizations and clubs very often sell candy and other things of that variant, mainly because it sells. Secondly, why do they not include school meal programs? That’s the core of what students should be eating, and it should be a big part of the evaluation. Vending machines are a-ok to check on, as the school decides what goes into them.

So we have 20-some states receiving a failing grade for the lunch programs, and a senator trying to limit the Fluffernutter’s appearance as a main menu in schools. Correlation or coincidence?
