Dillon to Retire?
Feb 23
I think more of my health, how I envision myself 5-10 years down the road. I don’t want to be broken down, not able to play with my kids. I’ve been blessed and fortunate enough to play 10 years. I can get up and walk around and be comfortable. That’s one of the big determining factors.
~ Corey Dillon
According to a Boston.com story, Corey Dillon is ready to retire. He’s spent seven years with the Bengals, which was not that pleasing to him. I remember looking at Madden 2003…he was my favorite running back. The problem though, was that he was a great running back on a sucky team. Dillon was sick of losing, sick of going 8-8 while putting up so many great games individually. I’d say that his three years with the Patriots was his redemption and proof that he can be a team player who isn’t selfish and just in it for the money. I’ve always loved Dillon. He’s not getting that one day contract with the Bengals to retire as one…hmm, I wonder why? (sarcastic). It’s interesting that the Bengals got better once he left…that’s probably when they got themselves together, and when Dillon found better things. It’s called a win-win, folks.
If Dillon’s out of the picture, Maroney’s going to see a lot more time, no doubt. Maroney could be a big game kinda guy…Belichick needs to keep him around. Maybe get another back to share the load, and have Maroney blossom to be all he can be. I heard something about T. J. Duckett possibly being a replacement for Dillon (not to say that they’ve talked to him or anything), but wasn’t Duckett upset about not having the starting spot in ATL? Maybe Duckett wants that full time start.
You know, it’s really exciting to see Maroney just explode through the secondary.
