Smarter Than A Fifth Grader?
Sure – If you weren’t asking completely retarded questions.
I’m talking about FOX’s new show. It’s another one of those “play for money” game shows, but it feels too forced, too dumb, too messed up. The host is Jeff Foxworthy, who just looks weird as a host of anything. The jokes on the show are corny, and the panel of elementary school kids they bring onto the show are cheesey. It seems as if some screen in front of them, invisible to the audience, is telling them when to laugh. The first contestant was surprisingly stupid – he didn’t know what month Columbus Day fell on, he didn’t know the height of a triangle with an area of 16 and a base of 8, and there was something else he didn’t know. They kept saying that he was a UCLA graduate and he was 40 years old and blah blah blah.
Some of the questions are really easy, and you’d swear some of them aren’t even elementary questions. Who the hell knows who the first impeached president was? (it was Andrew Johnson, but who learns that in elementary school?) What the hell is the REM that happens while you’re sleeping? (I later learned, through the show, that it is “Rapid Eye Movement”.)
Basically, this show is stupid. FOX needs to find some other way to make money, and leave shows like Deal or No Deal to doing the whole playing for money kind of stuff.
