And let me tell you why this won’t work.

I assume that the idea of this protest is to try to put a hole in the oil business by not buying gas for a whole day. From the surface, this sounds like a good idea. The problem is, human nature tends to take into account that if they cannot buy gas one day, they will work around that day to make sure they’re filled up.

The question is, will those who protest actually be driving that day? If they’re still driving, then they’re still consuming gas, and consuming gas means they’ll have to fill up eventually. Given that string of actions, protesters that protest in this manner are not affecting the oil companies at all. People are going to run to the gas station to fill up on gas on Monday the 14th to prepare for Tuesday the 15th. If that’s the case, then the gas companies are getting their money one day early, and they’ll get it one day late. The point is, they’ll get the money anyway.

If you really want to protest, take the T. Those big buses use gas whether we’re on them or not, and the more of us that are on them, the less gas we ourselves will consume. With that said, the motto shouldn’t be don’t pump, but it should be don’t drive. That would work much better and I do believe that would put a dent in the oil business, if that is what these protesters want.
