T Annoyances
Filed Under Opinion, Public Transportation | Leave a Comment
Some issues I have with the T at times. It’s not all service based; sometimes, the customers do things that annoy me.
On the T, I don’t like…
- When people hit the stop button when the bus is reaching a terminal station. It’s going to stop!
- When people keep trying and trying to hit the stop button when it’s already been pressed. True, sometimes they don’t work, but usually, it’s because somebody already pressed it.
- When MBTA officials try to close the train doors on you before everybody that wants to get in gets in. We know there’s a train behind us, but we don’t want to wait 10 more minutes for another one in the hot, musty train station!
- When people on the bus don’t move all the way back. They make the driver think the bus is full, and then they end up skipping over people they could have picked up.
- When the fare increases. It’s still cheaper than driving a car, though…
- When you’re waiting for the rear door to open and they don’t open it, and you have to yell out “Rear Door”. It’s bad on a bus…one day I was on a green line train going to either Cleveland Circle or Riverside (I forget) and the operator didn’t open the back door. Everybody had to run for the front before the doors closed.
- When riders don’t sit down in free seats to free up standing room on the bus or train.
- When crazy people try to talk to you.
- Long lines at CharlieCard service machines. Get a CharlieCard and buy your transportation money in bulk, whether it’s with a $10, $20, or even more, at a time. It saves you trouble, time, and everyone else a space in line.

I like Julian Tavarez. I make sure I watch all the Red Sox games when he plays. But no one can look past the fact that he’s currently in a slump. He hasn’t won a game since June 20th and is, I think, the only pitcher on the rotation with a losing record (5-8). It’s tough. Kason Gabbard’s been doing pretty well, so I think he should become the fifth starting pitcher when Schilling comes back. I wouldn’t mind seeing Tavarez in relief. He’s not a bad pitcher – he just doesn’t seem to last long before the hits start getting to him.
In other sports news, Asante Samuel is playing hard to get. The franchise tag deal isn’t enough for him and neither is the contract the Patriots offered, so he says he plans on holding out. Why, Samuel? The franchise tag guarantees that you’ll get paid among the top five players in your cornerback position, which is like 7 million something. Top five. The Pats don’t need CBs that are holding out – their secondary gets busted up every season and they need all they can get. I hope something can snap Samuel out of it, and if not, get rid of him – we don’t need that negative energy around here.
Daunte Culpepper got his release from the Dolphins. This guy hasn’t been the same without Randy Moss. It makes you wonder if he’s really a great quarterback or if his numbers just rode off the Moss bandwagon back when the two were united in Minnesota. Surely Culpepper has the ability to make a splash somewhere else sometime down the line, before he retires – right? I hope so. It’s sad to see a good quarterback all of a sudden disappear. I guess it’s not as bad as Vick getting in the news for a dogfighting indictment though; the latter news is just stupid.

Bob Ryan’s View on Vick’s Indictment
Filed Under Link, Sports | Leave a Comment
Good read. Here’s an excerpt:
As to what it could all lead to, the answer to that one is very simple: hard time. If Michael Vick — excuse me, “Ookie” — and his fellow defendants are convicted of all charges, they could be looking at something like six years in the pen. Given that Vick is in the middle of a $130 million contract and is also a major endorser, participation in this venture would have to be put in the “bad judgment” category, wouldn’t you think?

Vick Sponsoring a Dogfight Operation?
Filed Under Link, Sports | Leave a Comment
From Boston.com:
RICHMOND, Va. — NFL star Michael Vick was indicted by a federal grand jury yesterday on charges of sponsoring a dogfighting operation so grisly the losers either died in the pit or sometimes were electrocuted, drowned, hanged, or shot.
Original Article
Why, Vick? You’re famous, you’re a role model. Why are you in the news for illegal things? Or maybe he’s not guilty? I don’t know for sure. But I’d definitely look down on him if he actually did sponsor such a thing.

Logitech’s Waving Mouse
Filed Under Link, Tech | Leave a Comment
From CNET:
If consumers will pay $600 for a cell phone, Logitech thinks they will certainly pay $150 for the MX Air Mouse. The flying mouse, which arrives in August, will let users point it anywhere and then move the onscreen cursor with movements in any direction.
It’s an interesting idea. Would you pay $150 for a mouse that you could wave at the screen? I don’t know how I feel about it. It’s kinda cool but it could hurt eventually or become bothersome. Time will tell.
