AT&T’s New Data Plans Really Aren’t That Bad

Read the news in this article (Source: boston.com).
The new data plans from AT&T ($15/month for 200MB, $25/month for 2 GB) were announced today (aka, no more unlimited data plans) but only applies to new customers. I was at first bothered by the news, but then I checked my usage and realized that I used no more than 500MB in any given month (I’m around my computer quite a bit and I use Wi-Fi networks whenever possible). Also, since the old unlimited plan is grandfathered in, I don’t have to worry about changing from unlimited. But to think that I could possibly save $5 a month by dropping my cap to 2 GB when I don’t even use 25% of that in a given month. AT&T stated that about 98% of its customers will do just fine under then 2 GB plan while 65% of customers will be fine under then 200 MB plan.
Perhaps they should have had these plans in the first place so they wouldn’t have as much of a dangerously bad reputation. But now they do for new customers. What would be especially nice is if I spent the majority of my time in a Wi-Fi network – then I’d only use up to 200 MB and thus would be able to save $15 a month. I mean, I’m not streaming video or doing anything seriously heavy duty on my phone – that’s what a laptop or desktop computer is for. I think the bigger hit is really for the iPad users who will be streaming video and watch things on their device that take up a lot of bandwidth.

Trip Planner Makes No Logical Sense

So the MBTA apparently wants me to wait over 30 minutes for a train? (For the record, there are three other trains that come before the 10:59 AM train).

Musical Taste
Filed Under Jwill | Leave a Comment
First of all, I apologize for the long hiatus. I got really into my job at Steppingstone as an intern this summer and then got into my RA job and the school year. But here’s a post for you now, and I hope to keep it up as the semester winds down.
Very often when mentioning a song that I like and its artist, I then get asked if I have heard other songs or albums from that artists. It is a reasonable question to be asked; I am not trying to say otherwise. Barring a few artists, though, my music library is more random than coherent. I’ll have two songs from System of a Down, then one from Talking Heads, one from Alice in Chains, etc. I mostly run into music from video games such as Rock Band and Madden, hence the variety of artists. I also have a bunch of songs from video games such as Super Mario Galaxy and Brawl. I love video game music a lot.
Lately, in terms of music, I’ve been listening to Disturbed. I was first introduced to them with the song Down With The Sickness. I later heard Stricken on Guitar Hero 3. I grew to love David Draiman’s voice and listened to the album Ten Thousand Fists. I bought that album and Indestructible; I don’t really like their older stuff as much. Their music has a nice balance of intensity and serious messages lying underneath. I’ve also lately gotten into an indie artist by the name of MC Lars, who makes satirical songs about the music industry and pop culture. In these two examples. Sometimes, in examples like these, I get into the whole album and love it. Most of the time, though, it’s picking one or two songs from a batch and going on to the next one. My musical interest is quite sporadic.

TV This Week
Filed Under Jwill, Opinion | Leave a Comment
I’ve pretty much watched more hours of TV this week than I have in two or so weeks combined. I watched Criminal Intent on Sunday, SVU on Tuesday, Law & Order Wednesday, the Listener Thursday, and a NBC special Tuesday and Wednesday.
An episode of Criminal Intent came on Sunday, and I enjoyed it. I liked how Detective Nichols admitted that his parents fondled him a bit too much and led him to having an issue with a kind of self-centeredness. He said something like that, anyway. I felt Detective Wheeler was more involved in this episode, as well, which was nice to see. I don’t think she gets utilized enough; it’s nice to have a by-the-book detective with a quirky one, but the by-the-book detective, namely Wheeler, needs to have a bit more stage presence.
On Tuesday, I luckily caught the first part of a NBC special of the White House. It was very informative. I also realized that Rahm Emanuel is missing a finger. It’s unfortunate. I also found it funny when President Obama himself went out to buy the West Wing staff and Brian Williams burgers at Five Guys. Makes me kinda jealous. But either way, the second part of the special showed Wednesday night, and I found that pretty satisfying as well. I’m glad they have things like this to try to keep us as much in touch as possible.
I talk about the other two Law & Order shows and The Listener after the break. Note that there are some spoilers for the season finale ahead if you intend on watching it and haven’t yet.
